Halloween in Japan is so different from the United States! I had a lot of fun with my friends, but it felt like much less of an event than my usual Halloween. It's important to see these kinds of differences, I think. I'm gaining a lot of cultural perspective. This month has provided a lot of that for me as I adjust to my lifestyle here. The college is further than I'm used to, and it takes 50 minutes to walk. I wouldn't normally be bothered by that, but the humidity is killing me. I take the bus most days because of this, even though I was trying to save money. The classes are also very different, and the Japanese classes are much longer than I expected. It will be some time yet before I am fully accustomed to how I live here.

These first few weeks have been incredible. When I arrived at my dorm, I received an astonishingly warm welcome and stayed up late chatting with my new suite mates. The area is so quiet and everyone living in Tamadaira is really nice and helpful. I've been to so many places already: Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, etc. I have many plans for the future, too. During break my roommates want to go to many places in Japan. It's so exciting. Classes started, as well, and attending school has been a good experience so far. I have no complaints; even the rough patches have been so commonplace, I feel no lack of comfort being in this new environment.
